Illegal alien charged with hit-and-run in a fatal accident in Fort Bend County, Texas

On Friday evening, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office announced on their Facebook page that they were looking for a red 1997 Honda CRV with front end damage, Texas license plate MCC3125. Citizens were asked to call 911 if they saw the vehicle, and report spotting a suspect vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run accident.

On Saturday morning the post was updated. It was announced that a man named Marlon Alexander Zavala had been arrested and charged with the leaving the scene of a fatal automobile/pedestrian accident, which is a 2nd degree felony in Texas.

Later on Saturday morning, a few details were filled in, in a press release. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office had received reports on Friday evening that an automobile had struck a pedestrian. Upon arriving, deputies found a deceased woman in the roadway and discovered that the striking vehicle was not at the scene of the accident.

The deputies found surveillance video at a nearby business and were able to read the license plate number. Deputies checked the address of the registered owner, but weren't able to make contact with anyone there. Addresses of family members were checked, and the vehicle and driver were eventually located in Houston.

Bond was set at $10,000 and an ‘immigration hold’ was placed on Marlon Alexander Zavala by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A report from ABC 13 in Houston added that it was an elderly woman who had been struck, and that this occurred while she was crossing the street near Missouri City, a Texas city about 12 miles southwest of Houston.

An immigration hold, or detainer, is a request by ICE for a local law enforcement agency to hold in custody an arrested alien who is suspected of violating U.S. immigration law, for up to 48 hours after the time the alien would otherwise be released.

A Saturday evening Twitter update from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office added that the victim had been identified as Laquetta Booe, age 81.

Update:: On January 22, Bob Price reported ICE officials had informed Breitbart Texas that the driver's full name is Marlon Alexander Zavala-Alcantara and that he is 40 year-old Honduran citizen who was deported from the U.S. on six previous occasions.

Breitbart Texas adds in the name of multiple sources that Zavala-Alcantara reportedly has a criminal history including an aggravated battery in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in 2003, and a battery in California in 2000.
